Deputy Kevin Radovich and ESU Deputy Brian Neary responded to 871 Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley on the report of a road hazard on Monday, Feb. 11 around 6:30 p.m.

Further investigation revealed that a vehicle had struck a telephone pole, Putnam County Sheriff Robert L. Langley, Jr. said. As the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver fled, hitting the pole a second time in the process and initiating a pursuit.

The driver, later identified as 48-year-old Jeffrey Kidd, continued to refuse to pull the vehicle over and was nearly striking oncoming vehicles by driving recklessly, according to Langley. At one point, Kidd slammed the vehicle’s brakes, which caused it to swerve and hit another telephone pole, Langley added.

Deputies approached the vehicle and placed Kidd under arrest after observing that he only had minor injuries. Kidd was charged with the following misdemeanors:

  • Reckless driving
  • Third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle
  • Resisting arrest
  • Second-degree obstruction of governmental administration

Kidd was also charged with various traffic violation offenses.

He was released after posting $250 bail and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court at a future date.
